Q: You are a matchmaker — your goal, hook up two characters from two of your favorite books. Who would it be? How do you think it would go?
I couldn’t think of any romantic pairings, but two characters who I’d like to see in a room together are Marina Singh from Ann Patchett’s State of Wonder and Claire Fraser from Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander. They’re both scientifically-minded career women, tenacious yet tender, and face situations that nothing could prepare a person for. I think they’d have a lot to talk about given an afternoon in each other’s company.

I haven’t read State of Wonder, but I agree that Claire could definitely use a friend!

Hopping through. I have always meant to read Ann Patchett. I’d really like to read Bel Canto first.

I haven’t read Bel Canto either, but I’ve heard good things about it. State of Wonder is a pretty good read. Very layered narrative.

People seem to either love or hate State of Wonder, but definitely give Outlander a try. Gabaldon is an amazing writer.
It sounds like they’d be great friends! I LOVE Outlander. Old follower. My Follow

Definitely check out Outlander. It’s one of those amazing books that will have you talking about the characters like they’re real people lol.
That would be a really interesting pairing

They’re great books. Gabaldon writes amazingly real characters, and Patchett is good at making the setting into a character of its own.
Haven’t read these yet, but it sounds like a good pair.
